HUMBLE APPEAL FOR DONATION

Institute For The Blind, Chandigarh is being run by Society For The Care Of The Blind. The Society was incorporated as a registered body in May 1972. The Society was formed with twin aims of helping in prevention of blindness & to educate & train visually handicapped children of the region so that they could be rehabilitated to take their rightful place as responsible citizens of the society. Our Institute runs a higher secondary level school, classes being run from class 1 to class 12. This is perhaps the only Institute in Northern India, which is catering to the educational requirements of the visually handicapped children of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and U.T. Chandigarh. Presently there are around 150 students. We have the requisite buildings to include Administrative Block. Class rooms, hostels for the boys & the girls, two computer labs, two gyms ,kitchen, Dining Hall , Library & stores etc.
We have 20 teaching teachers & around 45 administrative staff to run the Institute. The teachers are highly qualified , who impart instructions & training to the students using latest methods including audio , video & online classes. Our Institute is affiliated to CBSE .Ever since our students started appearing in 10th & 12th Board examinations about 25 years back, our results have been 100% Ist division with no failures. Our students have also performed exceedingly well in sports & other fields. All the VIPs visiting our Institute including governors & high Government officials have been very appreciative of the high standards of excellence achieved by our Institution. More than 200 ex- students of our Institute are well settled in life and some are undergoing graduation & post- graduation courses, for which we give financial assistance. All facilities to students including, board, lodging, Uniforms, books , stationery, transport etc. are provided free. Since the beginning of lockdown in March 2020 the students are taught Online. Due to COVID - 19 conditions donations received by the Institute have considerably reduced. Despite our best efforts to cut down establishment expenses, we are not able to meet our expenses from the donations received. We have skeleton staff functioning in the Institute. We make an appeal to our generous & benevolent donors to donate liberally so that we can meet our financial commitments & continue to maintain high standards of this Institute. Donations can also be made in cash & through debit/ credit cards at our Institute daily between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Donations made to the Society/Institute are exempted from Income Tax Under Section 80-G of Income Tax Act.

The Society for the Care of the Blind has not authorized any individual/organization to collect donations on its behalf. Donors, particularly outside India, are requested not to entertain anyone claiming to be our representative for seeking donations. Donations are received in cash or kind. Proper official receipts are issued by the Society for all donations.
Donations are covered for Income Tax exemptions in India under Section 80-G of Income Tax Act. Any donor in India can send his donation by Cheque/Draft in the name of ‘Society for the Care of the Blind’ payable at Chandigarh and can deposit it in our Saving Bank under intimation to the Society for issuing of receipt.

For the convenience of donors, we have recently introduced the facility of giving donations through Net Banking / debit card / credit card. The donors are required to click on Donate button. It would open the portal of PayUMoney. Donors are required to fill in their particulars including the amount they wish to donate and make payment through Net Banking/Debit Card/Credit Card. A receipt generated by PayUMoney would be received by the donor. The amount donated would then be directly credited to our Saving Bank Account with SBI Sector: 7 Chandigarh branch. The receipts for the amount donated would be sent by the ‘Society for the Care of the Blind’ to the donors on the e-mail ID given by them subsequently.
PayUmoney, who are operating our Payment Gateway have now tied up with multiple payment wallets for the convenience. Donors can now pay their donation amount through the following Wallets to PayUmoney, who in turn would credit the same to our account.

The cost of supporting one student in this Institute for one year to include all his/her expenses is Rs. 1.5 Lacs. Any Individual/Corporate who wish to financiall support visually challenged student is welcome to do so. Suitable feedback would be given to them about the student's performance etc.; being sponsored by them.
Globalgiving is an international organization, which organizes giving of donations by its members to genuine charitable institutions throughout the world which are engaged in noble social activities in various fields. Our Institute is registered with them for receiving donations for specific projects. In the last a little over one year we have received donations from them amounting to approximately 2 Lacs (INR). So far we have utilized this grant to purchase two desktop computers with Talking-Book cum Recording Unit for the Blind students. These computers are being utilized for production of talking books as well as educational material in Braille script. With grant received from them, we have also acquired two daisy players (Digital Accessible Systems) Model PTR-2. These are being utilized for recording of lessons by and for the visually handicapped children.
Our Registration to receive Foreign donations under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) has been renewed.
